THE END
And I'M DONE!!!!! 79.75 miles...WOO HOO! Had one of my students...C2..., his dad, and brother there! LET THERE BE AC!!!!! More later when I cool down...
The Interesting Incident
Okay, we use the major & minor roadways to get to Cedar Point. Sometimes SR 20 (very sweet...recently been re-done...wide and smooth!), but mostly small 2 lane roads. Some of these 2 laners do not have sidelines AND have a small (about 1 1/2 foot) berm comprised of gravel and sand (materials under the asphalt). Beyond this 'berm' is a grass-filled ditch, about three feet deep. So, if you just happen to leave the road, you're in for an adventure! We are at mile 27(ish) and a biker is about 10 feet in front of me drinking from his water bottle. He has his head tilted back to the back-right and begins to veer right. He leaves the road and encounters the 'berm.' Attempting to return to the road, he over-compensates (easy to do in gravel/sand) and falls into the road. I currently had someone on my left (daughter is biking with him) so I can't swerve left and I ain't going done in the ditch, so I brake HARD and begin to rise up onto my front tire. I have had this happen before and can release the brake to drop back down, but if I go forward, I'm going to run him over. Soooooo...I just continue all the way over and land on top of him, on my shoulder and back. I rolled over his body and bike, taking my bike with me. I had unclipped my right shoe, but not my left shoe, so it came along for the ride! I roll completely over and off him and land on the berm/grass with my bike. We get up and he has major road burn on his leg and arm from falling, but I didn't incur anything. WHEW! Both bikes were okay and after checking to make sure we were both okay, off we went again. I made ABSOLUTELY sure I was not behind him again though...
